Victoria Theater and Concert Hall
Today I have a photo of the Victoria Theater and Concert Hall, which was completed in Singapore in 1909. I have never seen a show here, but it is a beautiful and historic building and clock tower. It was recently gutted and renovated, with the facade the only item that remained the same. Because Queen Victoria was the monarch throughout much of Singapore’s time as a colony of England, there are references to Victoria in historical places, including street names.
This post is part of the a-z challenge.
What do you think of the renovation – does it look better now inside or was it better before?

I didn’t live here before the renovation, which was from 2010-2014, but I think it looks very nice now. My husband, however, had seen a talk there prior to the renovation and preferred the previous interior. He said it had a charm about it that is no longer there.
What types of performances are scheduled here? When I travel I like to go to places like these for the experience.

This hall is mostly a venue for hire at this time, but you can find musical performances every day in Singapore. If you visit Singapore, look on the Esplanade website for info on what types of shows are on at this and their other venues, including the two durian-shaped halls. You will find everything from children’s shows, recitals, solo performances to big musical productions.
Thanks for the advice! After we all take a breather from posting every day in April, I hope to post at least once a week. I’ll be watching your blog, too.
Thanks Suzanne. I hope to get back to posting once a week again as well, but I definitely need a break first. Glad to know I’m not the only one! I will check your blog out again once things get back to normal. 🙂
